As humanity shifts from the era of communication into the era of collaboration, virtual environments are one of the essential and comprehensive mechanisms of interaction, between people, communities, and organizations. What is more, the benefits of collaborative communities are especially vital in the age of imposed imbalance of the ecosystem of the planet Earth. Unfortunately, people are not agile by nature, and change of position and views is more comfortable for some than others; moreover, the concept of a life set in a "mesh" might not be to the liking to everyone.
I was firstly teleport-ed to Firestorm SI, a place where participants 1-7 days old gather. I missed my first class with Acupa Tae and the group because i failed to spot the link in the Brightspace, nevertheless i am happy that i managed to find my way the second class and haven't missed one after. I also had a problem with sitting down the chair i class but then i found out it is "right click" + sit down here.
Second Life is a platform, developed by Linden Lab. (1999), revolving around the principle of a collaborative community in which a "produser" can buy land surrounded by ocean and build whatever concept he or she might have for a second life. From beaches, parks and mountains to houses, social clubs and businesses of all sorts.
The graphics of the platform stunning and getting better with each update. Walking, running, flying
and teleportation are the ways one explores the lands. Walking in the Firestorm Social Island alone one can engage a variety of intricate details situations like chatting away with someone you don't know, having a selfy with a squirrel, or flying a plane.
The mesh could become real enough if you don't focus on the correctness of the graphics and instead focus on the experience and interaction of the participants.
The initial experiencing SL might be overwhelming. At least, that was the case with me. After all, engaging within a diverse community introduces the potentiality to meet people of all backgrounds and in different moods.
